Dear Church Family,
“Joy to the world! The Lord is come; let earth receive her King!” It is nearly impossible to sing that beloved Christmas hymn without a smile on your face. That is because, from the very first Christmas, the message of the coming of Jesus has been one of Joy! In Luke 2:10-11 we read, “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’”
Welcome to Christmas Eve at Second. My prayer is that this service will take us back to the joy and wonder of that first Christmas in Bethlehem. So, as we prepare for worship, let’s take a moment to go back in our hearts and minds to that holy night. As we approach the manger through the music of the season and message of the Bible, I pray we will see clearly the Holy Infant wrapped in swaddling clothes – Majesty in a manger – the Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And I pray this greatest Gift of God’s love will bring great joy to our hearts.
If you are a visitor, let me take just a moment to say a personal word of welcome to you. Thank you for choosing to celebrate Christmas with the Second Family. I truly believe you are seated among some of Houston’s friendliest people who want to help you feel right at home. So, do not hesitate to ask questions and look around the campus while you are here. And let me invite you back for our study of 1 and 2 Corinthians beginning in January.
